Default SpringIDE or SpringSource Tool Suite

I'd like to see SpringIDE (http://springide.org, update site: http://springide.org/updatesite) or the recently free SpringSource Tool Suite (STS) (http://www.springsource.com/products/sts, not sure on update site) added to the catalog.
SpringIDE helps in writing Spring configuration files, and identifying objects managed by Spring. STS is a more professional set of tools built on top of SpringIDE from SpringSource.

Thanks,
topher

topher,

That one might take awhile as our policy for commercial products (yes, even free ones) is that we don't list them until the management at the owning company contacts us and requests a listing and we can work out all the branding and messaging with them (trademark reasons, etc).

However, you can still easily create your own profiles by starting with one of the Eclipse base profiles and using "Add... > Add software from update site..." as you've no doubt figured out by now. I only post that here for others that are interested in the same capabilities.

Hi Scott, thanks for the information. Do your statements also hold true for SpringIDE, which is open-source under the Eclipse Public License?
I'm currently only using SpringIDE, and would probably continue to use SpringIDE until I found a compelling reason to try STS.

Thanks,
topher

topher,

Unfortunately it does hold for SpringIDE as well. That's basically a product of SpringSource as well and they control the branding, logos, copyright, trademarks, etc.

It's simply an OSS and free product, but a commercial product nonetheless.

Lightbulb springframework support

The springframework is so widely used and vastly important that it would be a valuable asset to us paiding users. Yes, I know, policy is to not add tools from for-profit companies without an agreement in place. But please please consider making an exception. We need Spring and use Spring for everything. Right now I do it by adding the update site manually. But it would be tremedously helpful to have it automatically managed. Can you please pass on to the execs my request you consider this?

Doug,

We understand the need that everyone has for it. The exec team has known for a while that this is a highly requested plugin. The thing is we need the request to come from the plugin author. I suggest you ask SpringSource to contact us about putting their plugin in the catalog.

Cheers

Is it a matter that they just need to give approval, or that they need to pay as well?

Doug,

It's a matter of corporate image/branding usage. I know we wouldn't want to have the Pulse branding used without our knowledge. Because of this we need to be contacted by all comercially backed software that would lilke to be included in the catalog.
